Magnets for holding, fixing and closing

Magnets hold components without drilling, gluing or clamping and can be released quickly. In machine and fixture construction they keep doors and flaps closed, fix workpieces or covers, attach labels and cables, or act as stops. This group includes retaining magnets, also in stainless steel, shallow pot magnets with bore, holding magnets with plastic housing, magnetic catches for doors and flaps, and retaining magnets for cable mounting, along with disc, rod, button, U-shaped and raw magnets. Set screws with retaining magnets and stop screws combine fixing and holding functions. Adhesive discs, retaining washers and rubber caps complete the range as accessories.

Selection criteria and versions

  • Holding force: The stated holding force usually applies under ideal conditions. Air gap, surface finish, material thickness and counterpart material reduce the actual force.
  • Design: Pot magnets concentrate magnetic force on one face; U-magnets and rod magnets suit special installation situations.
  • Housing and material: Stainless steel or plastic housings protect the magnet material; rubber caps prevent scratches on sensitive surfaces.
  • Fixing: Bore, thread or set screw, depending on the connection to the component.
  • Counterpart: On non-magnetic surfaces, adhesive discs provide the necessary contact area.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the magnet not reach the stated holding force?

Holding force depends heavily on the counterpart. Thin sheet metal, paint layers, rough surfaces or an air gap reduce it significantly.

Can magnets be used on aluminium or stainless steel surfaces?

Many stainless steel grades and aluminium are not magnetic. In that case, an adhesive disc is mounted as the counterpart.
