item Automation System: Linear and Drive Technology
Linear guides, drive elements, gearboxes, motors, control components and accessories from the item Automation System for handling and positioning.
Integrating motion into profile structures
The item Automation System extends the profile building kit with components for linear motion. Guides, drives and linear units are combined directly with item profiles, so handling devices, traversing axes, adjustment units or gantries are built on the same structural basis as the frame and enclosure. This simplifies design, assembly and later modifications.
Areas of the system
- Linear guides: roller guides with track rollers, bolts and bearing units, shaft guides with ball bushing units and ball rail guides.
- Drive elements: toothed belt reversing units and tensioners, toothed belts, racks, chain reversing units, bevel gearboxes, connecting shafts and couplings.
- Gearboxes and motors: AP and WP gearboxes and SE series motors in several sizes.
- Controls: interface and I/O components for connection to the machine control system.
- Linear units and accessories: cross slide plates, slide plates, limit switches and limit switch sets, slide stops and cover profiles.
Selecting components
Key criteria are the load to be moved, stroke and installation space, the required positioning accuracy and the drive type – toothed belts for long strokes and fast motion, rack or screw drives for other requirements. Make sure that guide, drive set, gearbox and motor match in size.

Frequently asked questions
Roller guide or ball rail guide?
Roller guides are robust and tolerant of contamination, while ball rail guides offer higher rigidity and precision. The choice depends on load, accuracy and environment.
Can I automate existing item structures?
Often yes, as the components are designed for the item profile series. Check the series and profile size of your structure.
How are the end positions of an axis detected?
With limit switches or limit switch sets matched to the linear unit, which send a signal to the control system.
