Audible signals for machines and plants
Audible signalling devices draw attention to situations that must be noticed immediately – such as faults, the end of a process or hazardous conditions. They complement visual signals or are used when personnel are not constantly watching the machine. This category covers electronic buzzers, horns, sirens and multi-tone sirens as well as bells and panel-mount buzzers for installation in control cabinet doors or operator panels.
Selection criteria
- Tone: continuous tone, pulse tone, alternating tones or multi-tone sirens with 32 tones so that different messages can be told apart.
- Environment: loud production halls call for horns and sirens, while buzzers are often sufficient in control rooms or at operator stations.
- Operating voltage: for example 12 V DC, 24 V DC, 24 V AC/DC, 48 V AC, 115 V AC and 230 V AC, or wide-range versions such as 9–60 V DC, 10–48 V AC/DC and 115–230 V AC.
- Mounting: devices for wall or surface mounting as well as panel-mount buzzers for front panels.
- Housing colour: including grey, black and red.

Frequently asked questions
When is a multi-tone siren useful?
When several messages need to be distinguished acoustically or the signal has to stand out clearly from other noise in the hall. Selecting different tones allows each type of alarm to have its own sound.
What is the difference between a buzzer and a horn?
Buzzers are compact and intended for quieter environments. Horns and sirens produce much more penetrating signals for noisy areas.
Can I combine audible and visual signals?
Yes. Devices with light and sound in one housing can be found in the Combination category, and signal towers can be extended with audible elements.
