What are electromechanical drives used for?

Electromechanical drives convert the rotary motion of a motor into precise linear or combined rotary/linear motion. Unlike pneumatic drives, they can be positioned freely, run at variable speeds and be fully integrated into control processes. Typical applications include handling, placement, test rigs, packaging and assembly. This category includes ELGA toothed belt and spindle axes, ELCC cantilever axes, EGSK mini slides and EHMB rotary/linear modules.

Versions and selection criteria

  • Toothed belt axis: for long strokes and high travel speeds.
  • Spindle axis: for high feed forces and accurate positioning; the spindle pitch is part of the type code.
  • Cantilever axis: moves a cantilever while the main body remains stationary, ideal for vertical strokes and gantries.
  • Mini slide: compact, rigid units for short strokes with high precision.
  • Rotary/linear module: combines stroke and rotation in one unit, e.g. for pick-and-place.
  • Size and stroke: define load capacity and working space, e.g. ELGA-120 with 800 mm stroke.
  • Motor connection: matching motors, gear units and controllers are available in the motors and servo drives category.

Electric axes at KSK Components

At KSK Components you can combine FESTO axis, motor, controller and cables in one order. For building gantries and frames, profile systems from other manufacturers are available from the same source. Business customers see their individual prices after logging in.

Frequently asked questions

Toothed belt or spindle – which is better?

It depends on the application: toothed belt axes are fast and suited to long strokes, while spindle axes offer higher feed forces and finer positioning.

Is the motor included?

Axes are generally supplied without a motor. Motor, gear unit and controller are selected separately to match the axis.
