What are handling systems?

Handling systems take care of automatically picking up, moving and placing components. They combine several axes of motion into one unit and reproduce typical sequences such as lifting, transferring and lowering. This category mainly contains FESTO pneumatic handling modules from the HSP and HSW series. They generate a fixed, cam-guided motion between two end positions, making them particularly suitable for small parts assembly, placement tasks and feeders with high cycle rates. Parts are picked up by a suction cup or gripper attached to the output flange.

Versions and selection criteria

  • Series: HSP pick-and-place modules and HSW swivel handling modules with different motion kinematics.
  • Size: indicated by the number in the type code, e.g. HSP-16 or HSP-25; it determines stroke and payload.
  • Drive type: versions with integrated pneumatic drive (AP) or for mounting an external drive (AS).
  • Additional functions: versions with shock absorbers (SD) for smooth deceleration, intermediate position or handed designs (WR, WL).
  • Output: mounting options for grippers or vacuum components.

Handling systems at KSK Components

At KSK Components you can order handling modules together with FESTO grippers, vacuum technology, valves and sensors in one go. Profile and frame components from other manufacturers are also available for building a complete station. Log in as a business customer to see your customer group prices.

Frequently asked questions

What are the advantages of a handling module over separate axes?

A handling module combines the motions in a compact, pre-assembled unit. This saves space, design and assembly effort and ensures a smooth, consistent motion sequence.

What does SD mean in the type code?

SD identifies versions with shock absorbers for controlled deceleration in the end positions. Exact features are listed on the product page.
